Compensation award paves a mighty start for the legal companion service offered by the Malaysian Legal Aid Department

A 16 years old girl who receives the newly introduced legal companion service by the Malaysian Legal Aid Department (MLAD) was awarded with RM5000.00 compensation by the Georgetown Session Court.  The compensation award was made possible when the officer of MLAD appointed to act as legal companion in this case insisted for the Victim Impact Statement (VIS) to be read in court for the consideration of the judge.

The legal companion service is one of the legal aid services offered by MLAD under the Legal Aid Act 1971 commencing from 1st December 2017
